Upcoming Gig: Dirty Three + Josh T. Pearson

Dirty Three

We are in fine form, showroom condition. It’s the first time I’ve actually noticed the benefit of doing all these other projects on the way we play together. We don’t have any new songs, but will gladly play the hits and the one’s that got away. On a good day, there’s nothing quite like us on the stage, and you can quote me on that. – Warren Ellis, October 2009

Warren Ellis, Mick Turner and Jim White live on three different continents but reconvene once again on 7th December at Queen Elizabeth Hall as legendary instrumental trio Dirty Three.

The last year has seen Ellis on call working with longtime collaborator Nick Cave as Grinderman and in his regular role with the Bad Seeds. Jim White has been touring with Cat Power as well as working in the studio with PJ Harvey and Marianne Faithfull. Mick Turner has for his part been painting, holding exhibitions and touring with Bonnie Prince Billy. Seventeen years since forming their reputation for one of the most thrilling live shows around now proceeds them.

Josh T Pearson

Support comes from former Lift To Experience frontman Josh T Pearson, the son of a southern preacher, raised on sermons of fire and brimstone. Lift To Experience’s debut album was an awe-inspiring monument – at once epic and beautiful. Now he returns with an astonishing collection of new acoustic material.

Post Show: Soap&Skin at the Purcell Room

Soap&Skin

Who better to provide the soundtrack to a forbiddingly gloomy October evening than Soap&Skin, the experimental music project of 19-year-old Viennese singer-songwriter Anja Plaschg. Having opened for Patti Smith at Meltdown Festival in June of this year, this time she returns to Southbank Centre a headline act. A hush falls on the Purcell Room as she drifts on stage, clad in black, a Tim Burton-esque fantasy of wild hair, cheekbones and ghostly pallor.

Upcoming Gig: Cluster announced to support Tortoise this November

Tortoise_blog

Download A Free Tortoise Track

As a a little add-on to our Tortoise preview post we’ve manage to secure a free download of  ‘Prepare Your Coffin’ taken from their acclaimed new record Beacons of Ancestorship.

Prepare Your Coffin (MP3)

Cluster

We’re pleased to announce support for Tortoise this November will come from krautrock luminaries Cluster.

Following a series of acclaimed records in the early seventies on renown krautrock label Brain Records, Cluster went on to collaborate with the likes of Kraftwerk producer Conny Plank, NEU! founder Michael Rother and Brian Eno.

Throughout the seventies and early eighties Cluster worked extensively with members of Can and Tangerine Dream, bringing further critical acclaim and cementing their position at the heart of perhaps the most influential musical scene in twentieth century electronic music.

Their much anticipated return to London this November follows the release of Qua, their first studio album in over a decade.
