The softly spoken and softly-sung Swedish songwriter José González proved a fitting headliner for London Guitar Festival, González’ deft fingerstyle playing ably blending Bossa with European folk styles.
Lit by a single spot for much of his set, all attention was focussed on González’ dulcet tones and exceptional songwriting, his own work sitting comfortably amongst the songs he chooses to cover, or more accurately re-work, for the audience this evening, his version of fellow-countrymen The Knife’s Heartbeats is of course there, but so is a fantastic cover of McCartney’s Blackbird “The first song I ever learned to play…”
