Brian Eno’s Apollo

Earthrise over the moon, 1969.

With a new Brian Eno soon to be released by our friends over at Warp (check out the rather lovely box set and album…) what better time that to celebrate one of Eno’s greatest works, Apollo, or as it’s known in full Apollo: Atmospheres and Soundtracks.

Originally recorded for Al Reinert’s documentary film Apollo (later re-edited with added narration and renamed For All Mankind),  the album has become one of the most distinctive and acclaimed ambient records of all time. Even if you haven’t heard it, you may well have listened to exquisite moments from it placed in films such as Trainspotting and Traffic.

Icebreaker will be performing Apollo in full with steel-pedal guitarist BJ Cole tonight and tomorrow at Queen Elizabeth Hall. Both performances have sold out though we’ve been able to release a final few extra tickets each night. Be quick as they won’t last long…
